Review of Sette Bello in FCNP

Recently opened in 2006 by restaurateur Franco Nuschese, Sette Bello, or the “Handsome Seven of Diamonds,” offers patrons authentic Italian cuisine combined with chic décor. Nuschese also owns two other successful D.C. restaurants, Sette Osteria in Georgetown and the posh Café Milano near Dupont Circle.

Yummy Winter Recipe

Oven Baked Beef Stew 

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  • 2 lbs beef
  • salt
  • pepper
  • butter/oil
  • onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 t thyme
  • 2 T flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 T ketchup
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 stalks celery chopped
  • 1/4 red wine
  • carrots
  • potatoes

Pat beef dry, heat oil, brown beef. Reduce heat, add butter, onion, garlic, celery, thyme, salt and pepper.

Cook until tender. Add flour and cook for a minute. Then add broth,red wine,  ketchup and bay leaves.

Put beef in the oven for an hr, along with vegetable mixture.

After an hr, add veggies and cook for another hour.

  I have been reading this book, called “Far Flung and Well Fed: the Food Essays of R.W. Apple” , amazing if you’re into food or food writing. Which is what I want to be doing more of! : )
